We hebben al weer een paar heerlijke zomerse en zonnige dagen gehad. Genoeg blootstelling aan de zon is belangrijk voor onze gezondheid, zo stimuleert het de aanmaak van vitamine D, endorfine, serotonine én testosteron.
Het is wel belangrijk om te voorkomen dat je verband door de zon (bijvoorbeeld als je er lang in blijft of als de zonnekracht heel sterk is). Verbranden door de zon vergroot namelijk de kans op huidkanker, maar wist je dat smeren met de verkeerde zonnebrandcrème ook je kans op huidkanker vergroot? Wij hebben hier eerder al eens een artikel over geschreven.
Vorig jaar hebben we de natuurlijke zonnebrandcrème test geupdate. Dit jaar hebben we besloten om ook andere merken eens onder de loep te nemen. Bijvoorbeeld de zonnebrandcrème van Vichy, Vision en La-Roche-Posay. Deze worden vaak aangeraden door apotheken, huidartsen of beautysites.
De Consumentenbond heeft begin mei al een zonnebrandcrème test gepubliceerd. De beste uit de test is Zenova (van de Action). Ook deze hebben we meegenomen in de test. Komt deze bij ons ook als beste uit de test? Daar kunnen wij kort en krachtig over zijn: Nee!
De zonnebrandcreme van Zenova bevat onder andere Octocrylene.
Octocrylene is een synthetisch UV filter. Bij het afbreken van octocrylene komt benzophenone vrij: een kankerverwekkende stof die onze hormonen kan beïnvloeden en het DNA kan beschadigen (mutageen & carcinogeen).
Voor ons is deze zonnebrandcrème dus een absolute afrader.
Naast zonnebrandcrèmes met synthetische UV-filters keuren wij ook crèmes af die nanodeeltjes of aluminium bevatten.
Verder hebben wij ook gekeken naar de overige ingrediënten. Zoals Sodium Benzoate, Tocopheryl Acetate (kan verontreinigd zijn met sporen van bleekmiddelen), Phenoxyethanol en Butylene Glycol.
Daarnaast zijn er twee ingrediënten die schadelijk kunnen zijn, namelijk:
Parfum: een samenstelling van diverse synthetische (en/of natuurlijke) stoffen. De samenstelling van een parfum staat niet op de ingrediëntenlijst en fabrikanten houden dit vaak geheim. Er kunnen echter schadelijke stoffen in zitten (zoals acetone, benzaldehyde of phthalates), maar dit hoeft niet.
Tocopheryl Acetate: is een synthetische vorm van vitamine E welke, net als de natuurlijke variant, bescherming biedt tegen schadelijke effecten van UV stralen. Echter is er een kleine kans dat deze verontreinigd is met o.a. bleekmiddelen.
Voor beide ingrediënten is het helaas moeilijk te controleren (dit zou alleen in een laboratorium kunnen).
Zonnebrandcrèmes die Parfum of Tocopheryl Acetate bevatten keuren wij niet per definitie af, maar merken wij aan als twijfelachtig (aangegeven in oranje).

Veel zonnebrandcrèmes die aangeraden worden door de Consumentenbond of (on)afhankelijke beautysites bevatten schadelijke UV filters (mutagenen en carcinogenen).
Daarnaast blijft het altijd belangrijk om te kijken naar de ingrediënten, ook bij vertrouwde merken. Helaas worden samenstellingen nog wel eens veranderd. Zoals bijvoorbeeld Lovea (was op basis van titaniumdioxide) die nu overgestapt is op synthetische filters.
